NLP Programme: Choose What’s Best for You
In my observation, it’s a couple of years since Indian sub-continent has taken to Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) in a massive scale and the enthusiasm today about NLP among professionals, students and people from every sphere of life is like never before. This is precisely, why many have ended up doing a course that was either expensive or not required for them.
So now, with the knowledge I gained following my struggle to zero in on a NLP programme and suitable trainer as well as with an experience of four years in the field being a trainer, I would like to suggest few things to clear up your confusion on how to go about this. I will do this while narrating my experience of searching and finally finding suitable trainer for me.
Yes, there it is. In choosing a trainer or a training programme, your role is the most important. You know yourself and your needs the best. When I wanted to do a training programme, my friend suggested me a few expensive options, but I was not convinced. My experience says, for many it’s a business. Therefore, select the trainer or coach or training programme that provides value worth your money. It is not the impression or brand that counts in a trainer, it is what he delivers and its impact on you.
Like I told you, your role is the foremost and therefore gaining knowledge about NLP scene is important. First of all, read up NLP accreditation body’s website for adherence of NLP code of ethics and for information on NLP Trainers. Look up, search on the internet, do your homework, speak to few coaches, zero in on few good options and select the best out of the same. This again is something that I have experienced and that is how I chanced upon my mentor.
Remember, you are only as good as your trainer or coach. Therefore, choose the trainer wisely. An average trainer tells, a good trainer demonstrates and a great trainer inspires. Look for not only a passionate trainer, but also one who is approachable and guides you all through. A constant personal contact with the trainer or coach not only helps you practise confidently, but also feels very rewarding. Most importantly, choose a trainer/coach who can help you integrate NLP into your daily life through passing on to you NLP skills.
Now, with regard to training programme structure, clarify with the provider on the following aspects namely participant size and support system among others. In my experience, participant size of 10 – 15 is a good arrangement as the trainer can cater to all the participants and also participants can well assimilate skills learnt at the programme. In addition, the trainer should also give assignments for participants to apply in real life situations post the training programme. Also inquire as to what support or assistance is offered during the programme. It would be of great advantage to have enough support and assistance to help participants during many challenging phases of training, especially if the size of participants is huge. Not having such assistance might deter participants from doing another course in the future.
Following the above suggestions, I would also like to add that getting a good NLP training is not only a result of what you choose, but also of what you avoid. I did NLP practitioner programme when I was a Master trainer in Life Skills with 5 years of freelancing. The immediate outcome for me was that it should help enhance my delivery. The point is the result you desire from the training you are about to acquire. For example, if you are someone into training or teaching, NLP practitioner certification is enough. Similarly, for a Sales or marketing executive an advanced diploma is enough. Market offers you lot of combinations and you just have to make the right choice for yourself. For instance, we have a tailor-made one or two-day workshops for those who need basics of NLP or concepts they desire. However, if someone is not keen on international certification we also provide these workshops on budget rates.
If you are wondering, what prompted me to write on this topic, I want to reiterate my mission of creating maximum awareness about NLP in common man. To achieve this, I provide the tailor-made training at budget price. Further, NLP is not about international certification, but about changing oneself and in turn changing others, becoming a reason for other’s smile and thus make the world a better place to live in.
COACHING is unlocking people’s potential to maximise their own performance. It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them. We all have a built-in, natural learning capability that is actually disrupted by instruction.
